WU in top 10 of the FT Global Masters in Management Ranking

28/10/2019

Coming in at 9th place, WU has achieved a sensational result in this year‘s Financial Times Global Masters in Management Ranking.

With its English-taught Master’s Program in International Management, WU places 9th in the 2019 FT Global Masters in Management Ranking, making its way back into the top ten with this excellent result. The program offers students from around the world an internationally recognized management degree with the option of spending a semester abroad at a respected international partner university. Students also have the opportunity to gain professional experience by completing an international internship and get a head start by making contact with top companies during their studies.

WU ranked as second-best university in the German-speaking region

This most recent result puts WU in the same league as prestigious institutions like University College Dublin’s Smurfit Graduate Business School (7th place), the CEMS Global Alliance (8th place), and Bocconi University (10th place). WU is ranked as the second-best university in the German-speaking region, after the University of St. Gallen, which takes first place in the ranking. “A top ten spot in this renowned ranking is a great success for WU. I’m proud that with our master’s in International Management, we can offer our students one of the top management programs in Europe. Academic rankings and our universities’ performance in these rankings often meet with criticism in Austria, but in spite of this, WU manages to represent Austria positively and, at the same time, shows that it is possible to perform well in international rankings,” says Rector Edeltraud Hanappi-Egger.

WU master’s excels with international experience and career prospects

In the FT ranking, universities are ranked in 17 categories in three areas: alumni career progress, diversity (percentages of female and international students and personnel), and international experience and research. Not only the universities are surveyed, but also program alumni; their responses are weighted more heavily in the statistical analysis than the universities’ answers. In detail, the results show that 97% of WU alumni find a job within three months of graduating. WU also excelled again with its comprehensive portfolio of foreign language courses and its international environment. This aspect leads to higher levels of professional mobility later in graduates’ careers and to better positions at larger companies. WU also achieved very good results in the “value for money” category.

The top two positions remain unchanged from last year, with Switzerland’s University of St. Gallen in first place, followed by France’s HEC Paris, while London Business School and France’s Essec Business School are tied at third place this year.
